Social Justice Run & Family Picnic Thursday, May 29th
Sat, May 24 1:25pm

A Message from Principal Blyden:

Dear PS 20 Families,

We are writing to remind you that the 5th Annual PS 20 Social Justice Run and Family Picnic will be held on Thursday, May 29th, 2025.  Classes will be highlighting social justice issues they have been researching and discussing in class as part of their curriculum.  To make this event a success we need your support in the following ways:

  1. On Thursday, May 29th, send your child with a packed lunch, a water bottle, sneakers, sunscreen and a towel/blanket or any other items they might want to bring to the picnic.  Note: Please label all items your child brings with them.

  1. Sign and return the permission slip / trip form to your child’s teacher.

  1. Volunteer either by signing up on Konstella for key roles needed throughout the day or join your child’s class for the day and hear our students advocate for important social justice causes, cheer on our student runners and enjoy a day in the park with us.

  1. Help us reach our goal of raising $10K for the JEDI Fund by scanning the QR code at the top of the letter or texting “PS20SJR" to 44-321.  The PS20 JEDI Fund serves as a valuable resource to the PS20 community and allows us to do everything from conducting workshops to covering field trips for families that may be experiencing economic challenges.  This year we will look to positively impact our community by using a portion of funds raised to address social justice issues classes raised in our community.

  1. Purchase/donate a PS 20 Social Justice Run t-shirt.  Arranged by a PS20 family, an apparel company will generously print our shirts at-cost - and every student will receive a t-shirt.  If you would like to graciously help cover the cost of the shirts, we encourage contributions of at least $10 per shirt (or more to help with others!).  To purchase or donate a PS 20 Social Justice Run t-shirt, scan the QR code below.

This event can’t happen without the support of the broader PS 20 community, and we truly appreciate your support and hope you can join us.  We are looking forward to this fun and wonderful PS 20 tradition. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me, your teacher or your class parent.

Sincerely,

Principal Blyden
