Dear PS 20 Staff and Families:
Students and educators at the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde Texas had their lives taken tragically in a senseless act of violence. Although this horrible tragedy happened miles away from our school, I know you share my sadness and distress for the students, families, and colleagues affected.
It is ever so important in the days to come that we work together to support our children. For some children who are already under increased stress as a result of the pandemic, and the shooting in Buffalo, this event may increase their anxiety or fear.
PS 20 teachers and staff are preparing to meet the needs of students who may experience anxiety or fear, as a result of learning the details surrounding the school shooting. Please be sure to inform your child’s teacher if they require additional support at school.
To the extent possible, families should limit and monitor children’s exposure to media outlets and television news reports of this event.
This heartbreaking event reminds us all about how precious and loved our children are, and it reminds us how important it is for every adult to support, care and strengthen them.
On behalf of our entire learning community, our thoughts and prayers go out to the Uvalde community.
