Reminder: Student –Led Conferences are Thursday November 14

Student Led Conferences will take place on Thursday, November 14, 2019.  Students will be dismissed at 11:40 am sharp. Conferences are by appointment from 12:45-2:45 pm and from 5:00-7:30 pm. Please contact your child's teacher for an appointment.

Children in grades Kindergarten through Grade 5 must be present at the conference with their parents.

At PS 20 we firmly believe in empowering our students.  That is why in 2015 we shifted from the traditional parent/teacher conference to student- led conferences. A student –led conference is one where the student facilitates the conversation.  This practice helps our children develop their voices; it also requires them to be thoughtful about their learning while instilling personal responsibility for their own learning.

Our Student Led Conference Objectives

To increase student accountability and autonomy concerning their work habits, their learning and their progress toward goals.
To sharpen student verbal communication skills and critical thinking skills.
To help students meet verbal communication standards.
To teach students how to persuade by substantiating claims with evidence.
To emphasize our leadership goals (7 Habits) by empowering students to take charge of their own learning and progress.
To build an open and trusting relationship between the parent the teacher and the student
