Dear Colleagues and Families,

The Adapt Community Network Family Connect Center has planned several events during the upcoming months that we would like to let you know about. These workshops are free and are available to professionals, family members, caregivers and all interested individuals. They are a great opportunity for family members to network and connect with others. Translation to Spanish is always available. We are also pleased to offer referral and support services as well.

1)     Thursday, January 30th ROLE OF A DEVELOPMENTAL PEDIATRICIAN AND ADVOCACY (1770 Stillwell Ave, Bronx, NY 1046910am-12pm

DESCRIPTION: Your child sees a pediatrician regularly, but do you know that a Developmental Pediatrician plays an important and complementary role to EI / CPSE /SE and obtaining services?  When there is a delay in achieving milestones, a Developmental Pediatrician is a valuable resource in diagnosing medical problems and identifying symptoms. Families need a clear and definite set of symptoms to understand what may have caused the problem to occur and why their child is having difficulties. A Developmental Pediatrician evaluates the delays and problems that a child is having, and suggests medical treatments (medications, therapeutic equipment) that would improve the child’s functioning and progress. The information provided by the Developmental Pediatrician empowers families to advocate for their child in school, in social settings and every facet of their life.
