Dear Parents and Guardians,
I would like to introduce myself; my name is Magdalena Varela-Hand and I am the new social worker at The Children's School, 372K. I am a graduate of Adelphi University and have nearly 20 years of experience counseling children and families in school-based and non-school settings. I am so excited and honored to be joining this amazing 372K community, and especially now during such a critical moment in history.
I am so excited and honored to be joining this amazing 372k community, and especially now during such a critical moment in history.
I wanted to let you know some of the ways that I can be helpful to you and your child. As the school social worker, my role is to assist in facilitating increased communication between home and school and to help ensure a strong connection for all families. I will be meeting with student’s individually and in small groups, collaborating and working as a team (SEL) with parents and staff to help with strategies that can be used at both school and home settings.
In order to meet the needs of our 372k community, I am also available to provide outside resources of support (ie: referrals to things such as therapy and family services, financial assistance programs, and other community resources). I am always open to talking to any parent or guardian who may have questions or concerns. Please do not hesitate to contact me about anything at all and hopefully I can be of assistance to you and your family!
I am thrilled to be here and look forward to a great school year and getting to know all our wonderful students at The Children’s School!
Magdalena Varela-Hand, LMSW
