Dear Parents and/or Guardians,
Yesterday we saw and heard another senseless shooting in our schools. Incredibly precious lives lost yet again. We grieve with the families and recognize how much our time together matters. I heard stories of heroes who protected the children; guards, aides and teachers who re-directed them toward safety.
Throughout the year, The Children’s School conducts many emergency drills. The Building Response teams in each of our buildings; our main building and our building that houses the ASD program meet regularly to discuss emergency procedures and review various scenarios that can occur. This incident reinforces the importance of emergency drills and we will continue to have them throughout the school year.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., once stated, “In a real sense all life is inter-related. All men are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” We most likely have members of our community who are connected to the Parkland students and families. It is important that we come together and keep our eyes and ears open to anyone who may be struggling with this terrible incident.
I have included some resources to help you communicate with your children that I hope you will find helpful.
Thank you for being the caring community that you are. If I myself or anyone in our school community can help at any time, please do not hesitate to reach out.
