Hello P.S. 372 Families,
The PTA is collecting parent signatures in support of a petition to obtain a crossing guard and a turn signal at 4th Avenue and 1st Street. The petition will be submitted to our City Council Member, Brad Lander, The NYC Dept. of Transportation, and the NYPD’s 78th Precinct.
Between the car wash, the Con Ed Substation, ongoing construction on 4th Avenue and school buses that get backed up from the gym all the way to 4th Avenue, this intersection is particularly dangerous for pedestrians. Members of our school community have already had some terrible experiences at this location. A few years ago, a bus (with Children’s School students aboard) flipped over while attempting to make a left turn from 4th Avenue to 1st Street.
A paraprofessional from P.S. 372 was hit by a car and injured at this intersection.
We need to make this a safe crossing for all of our students who travel to school on foot and by bus.
Tomorrow when you arrive at school for Parent Teacher Conferences, please sign the petition, which will be on a desk at the top of the stairs of the main entrance of the school (on Carroll Street).
Furthermore, if you could submit a request for a speed reducer (such as a speed bump) on both Carroll Street and on 1st Street, it would help to slow down traffic in front of our school. A request can be made here:
It’s imperative that we keep our streets safe for our children, particularly those immediately surrounding our school. Your support is greatly appreciated!
