Sunset Park Women in Action invites 5th-8th graders and a parent/guardian for a day of civic engagement, public speaking, community building, and leadership. 
Participants will leave knowing more about what makes our city move, with an emphasis on the role of women. They will leave as more informed citizens, future voters, and potential future leaders. 
This program is free thanks to grant funding from the Citizens Committee for NYC, and breakfast, lunch, and t-shirts will be provided.

 Here's a simple summary of the day that you can include in an electronic outreach:


Come join us on November 4 from 9:30am to 2pm! There will be:

Welcome remarks from special guests and breakfast

Youth-parent/guardian pairs will learn together in two workshops: 

Workshop 1: Persuasive Speech: How to Use Your Voice to Inspire Community Action and

Workshop 2: Creating a Political Map of the City through Art


Youth led discussion with NYC Women leaders:

            Catherine Kim, Program Director, Enterprise Community Partners

            Arelis Hernandez-Cruz, Director of Community Affairs, NYC Comptroller’s Office

            Alicka Ampry-Samuel, Democratic Primary Winner, City Council District 41

Surveys and wrap up



T-shirts, books and other swag

A fun, interactive day learning alongside the adult in your life

Free breakfast, lunch and snacks

Transportation reimbursement for those who need
