To the Children's School Community:
We wanted to share some exciting activities that will be occurring in the coming days.
Black Lives Matter in Schools Week : 372K A Year of Purpose
This week begins Black Lives Matter in Schools Week. Following a National List of Events, teachers will engage in conversations about the 13 Principles of Black Lives Matter Movement and equity. We have created a drive of many resources and activities to facilitate conversations about the movement including lessons, ways to stay connected and activity suggestions. On Wednesday, 2/9/22 we will hold our One School, One Book reading of The Day You Begin by Jacqueline Woodson. Some students from our Inclusion Advisory Group will be reading this book to our school community. Classrooms were given a copy of the book and access to follow up materials.
Lunar New Year
As we enter the Year of the Tiger, many families are getting ready to celebrate Lunar New Year. At 372K the resource "Learning About Lunar New Year" is shared with staff to facilitate activities and conversations about the celebration to build awareness. It was developed by the Department of Education to highlight the history of Lunar New Year celebrations around the world.
World Read Aloud Day
Wednesday, 2/2/22 is World Read Aloud Day. Our Librarian, Ms. Jackie has scheduled 3 authors to share their books with us by reading aloud and engaging in discussions with our students by grade band at both sites.
