August 2022

Dear Parents and/or Guardians:

Wow! We did it! We had to overcome some challenges throughout the school year but in the end, we showed character and resilience as we persevered through the obstacles. With grit and determination, we made it! Here we are preparing for the opening of school and we welcome the 2022-23 school year! We hope that you had a great summer!

We are so excited to welcome our new and existing families! We are thrilled to bring back the wonderful programs that bring parents back in the building.  We will welcome you all to participate in things like Parents as Partners, where parents come in on Friday mornings to participate in reading, math, gym, art, etc.  We will send a calendar during the first days of school.

We will continue to celebrate the diverse and talented students and hope to nurture and enrich our school environment.  Students, staff and families will continue to celebrate inclusion, diversity and equity with continued programs such as One Book, One School and Roots and Community.  We look forward to your participation during these celebrations.

We encourage communication between and among students, teachers, parents, administrators, and community members. We look forward to your partnership and contributions to our long-standing tradition of excellence as well as providing opportunities to connect during Parent Teacher Conferences, Monday teacher-parent office hours, Admin. open hours, PTA meetings, SLT meetings, and many more opportunities.

Our students will have an opportunity to explore, discover, and apply learning in technology, science, health,  physical education, art, dance, and music.  Students have opportunities in a myriad of programs supported by parents through our amazing PTA.  These programs include such things as Jazz in the City, Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, Thunderbird Dancers, and more.  The arts are an integral component of our school life.

School in general, no matter the grade can present developmental milestones and challenges, the partnerships between faculty, staff, parents, and community is paramount. The Children's School PTA is a vital part of this relationship. We thank them for all the work they continue to do.

We hope that you enjoy the remaining beautiful summer days, and we look forward to meeting our students and collaborating with parents in the fall as the 2022-23 school year begins.  See you all on September 8, 2022 for our first day of school.

Respectfully,

Rosa Amato

Principal, The Children's School
