Overlapping Identities, Overlapping Barriers: At the Intersection of Disability, Race and Gender

Friday May 10, 9am-1pm
Dweck Center
Central Library
10 Grand Army Plaza

Join us for an overview of the issues as well as concrete support and strategies for dealing with overlapping identities. 
Key Note Speaker: Morénike Giwa Onaiwu, EdD(IP); MA, Autistic Women & Nonbinary Network
When people don’t fit the dominant image associated with their identity, already significant barriers increase. Hear from a panel of authors and storytellers “Telling Our Stories.” Attend workshops to learn about: special education services and English language learners; getting the right diagnosis for youth of color; having autism in the LGBTQ community and growing up disabled in the Caribbean American community. 

Spanish interpretation provided; registration and breakfast at 8:30 am.

Not So Different: What’s Cool About Having a Disability? Ask Me!

Join us as we explore a day in the life of someone with a disability as Ketrina Hazell, Miss Wheelchair New York, answers your questions about disabilities. With a special guest performance by NYC Kids Project. Come explore the worlds of people with disabilities! Check out our puppet show and make your own puppets to take home.

Music for Autism Presents: Fair Trade Chamber Music Society

Join us for this autism-friendly, interactive sensory concert. The trio specializes in creating accessible performances for all audiences and champions the works of living female composers alongside the standard chamber music canon.

Music for Autism provides free interactive, autism-friendly concerts for individuals with autism and their families.
