NEW - VALENTINE’S BAKE SALE – FEBRUARY 14
To sweeten your valentine's day a little bit more, stop by the 5th grade valentine's bake sale and rose sale, Wednesday, February 14, from 8:15 am to 3 pm in the lobby. Baked goods range from $1-$2. Roses of all colors are $3. All proceeds from the Valentine Grams and bake sale go toward the 5th grade senior trip.
REMINDER - WINTER BREAK, FEB 16 - FEB 23
A reminder that Friday, February 16th is the first day of the winter break. Therefore, all PS10 sponsored after school academics, enrichment and clubs are cancelled for Thursday afternoon 2/15. PS10 Extended Day will be running all activities on Thursday afternoon.

This is an adults-only traveling party. Each course will be held in a different neighboring PS10 family home with everyone convening for dessert at one final location. REMINDER - INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN’S FILM FESTIVAL
It's time! NY Int'l Children's Film Festival 2018 is just around the corner and will be showcasing the best new films for ages 3-18. A brochure was sent home in the yellow folders last week. This year the Festival is packed full of fantastic film programs for your family this year and, even better, our school earns $3 back for every ticket you purchase!
The Festival is back in Brooklyn this year! On Feb 25 and March 4th, it will be at the Alamo Drafthouse in Downtown Brooklyn

The PTA will conduct our second lice check of the school year immediately after the winter recess break. We ask each family to please donate $10 per child to be checked. If you are your family is able to sponsor another child it will be greatly appreciated. No child will be refused a lice check for lack of payment.
Please look for the lice check permission form in your child's yellow folder this week.

Girl Scouts of Greater New York have reached out to our school asking if there is interest in starting a local troop here at PS10, they will provide knowledge, training, and resources. REMINDER - READ-A-THON – FEBRUARY 2 - MARCH 2
The annual PS10 Read-a-thon, our biggest fundraiser for the school and a fun-filled month for all, has launched! Don’t forget to help students track their books and their minutes while gathering pledges. If you're interested in helping with prizes, tallying, and communications, please join the Read-a-thon committee on Konstella or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Remember to get family and friends involved in this amazing event, they can sponsor your child in any way they can! Information and extra form copies may be found at the parent resource center in front of the PTA office.

REMINDER - TREASURER FINANCIAL ASSISTANT – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We’ve updated our accounting systems and our current treasures need additional help. The Financial Assistant will do bookkeeping across several of the PTA payment, processing, and accounting systems, and help with the monthly reconciliation of items for accurate reporting. This is a work from home/spare time position that will require 3-4 hours per week. Prior bookkeeping experience is not needed. This is a great opportunity to see how the PTA works or a chance to train for the PTA Treasurer role.

DISABILITY VS. LANGUAGE BARRIER FOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS (ELLS)

For students whose native language is not English, it can be a challenge to distinguish the difference between the process of learning a second language and a disability. In this workshop, we will learn about typical second language learning patterns, ideal learning environments, and the importance of a student’s home language. We will also take a look at how all of these things relate to the disability referral process and a student’s eligibility to receive supports and services.

PARENT RESOURCE AREA
The PTA has a parent resource station consisting of a computer and printer for parent use outside of the PTA office in the cafeteria. This area is also where you can find hardcopy forms, signup sheets, and community information from the PTA.

PS 10 GRAND READERS PROGRAM
Join us in the PS 10 Library on Thursday mornings to read with our students! All you need to do is show up! We welcome the gift of your time and attention. This event will be every Thursday from 8:30-10:30 AM. Don’t forget to bring your ID to enter the building.
