Please look for the sign-up note from your class parent, and prepare something delicious for our wonderful teachers and staff – it is a very long, exhausting day. All contributions can be brought to Room 116, the teacher lounge, at the time assigned to your class. We have over 150 teachers and staff to feed both lunch and dinner so please contribute if you can. THE DIVERSITY PROJECT
This is a year–long cultural exhibit highlighting ancestors within our PS10 families who helped define your family’s path. Maybe you have an ancestor who was the first to vote in US elections, graduate from college, or start a family business? Email a brief story of 200 words or less telling us their name, date of birth/death, and their story of trial, triumph and/or tribulation along with (1) hi-resolution, scanned photo of your ancestor and (1) hi resolution, scanned photo of your student to firstname.lastname@example.org. No smartphone photos please. Please submit a letter granting permission for use along with your photograph. Entries will be reviewed for inclusion in a year–long exhibit showcasing family stories, and as coffee table book to be sold as a fundraiser. Third round of submissions are due November 15, 2017. Photo scanning support available. Please participate! What a powerful affirmation of inclusion this will be for our children!
WELLNESS COMMITTEE is hoping to offer 60 teachers 10-minute massages on November 15th! We are asking all parents to donate $1-2 per child to help make this happen… simply place $1-2 in an envelope, label it “Teacher Wellness” and place in your child’s yellow folder. Please ask teachers to submit “Teacher Wellness” donations to the PTA office.
AUCTION WRAP UP
And if you won an item at the auction please remember to pay for your auction items! Email email@example.com with questions and look for an invoice from Square for payment. Items are available in the PTA office now.
Please, also keep your eyes peeled for sales of a few remaining items, coming soon!
THE PARENT ACTION COMMITTEE works to connect and organize the larger PS10 community with educational policy and political happenings that impact PS10 and public education more generally. Some of our past actions include the letter-writing campaign last year opposing the nomination of Betsy DeVos as Secretary of Education and working with the SLT and Diversity Committee to craft a letter to the NYC DOE stating our concerns about the lack of equitable representation in the ongoing process in D15 to change middle school admissions (which seems to have had its desired effect). If our work and these topics interest you, please join our committee on Konstella. All are welcome.
OTHER WAYS TO HELP PS10!
CHECK OUT THE WEEKLY VOLUNTEER SHEET!
Each week the PTA will ask for volunteers to help us with tasks needed to help support the school, from paper sorting and greeting, to sign-ups and raffle basket building. Please look for the signup sheet on Konstella — every little bit helps our community.
