Dear PS10 Families:
The events of the past few months have led to significant changes for many families, in terms of more than just remote learning. As many families throughout the country continue to experience food insecurity and financial hardship, New York State announced in May that every NYC public school student will receive a Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) card worth $420 to apply towards purchasing food from NYC Greenmarkets and local grocery stores: https://otda.ny.gov/news/2020/2020-05-12.asp
Since the announcement, many families have asked what they can do if they are not in need of this funding assistance to purchase food. Due to the structure of the program, families are not able to return or transfer the cards, which are valid for a period of one year from the date of issue.
If you are able to, please consider making donations to organizations providing food aid throughout NYC. The following link provides a wide variety of options and resources for supporting a variety of NYC businesses and organizations:
These resource lists are understandably not fully comprehensive and there are many other organizations and businesses within the PS10 community not listed, such as Roots Cafe and Holy Name Church Food Pantry, that have been providing food aid to those in need. Please reach out to these organizations and others to see how you can support their efforts.
Alternatively, if you would like these funds to be reinvested into supporting PS10's academic resources, please make a donation to the PS10 Family Giving fund (https://www.ps10.org/groups/78217/pta/giving__support). Since the start of the pandemic, the PTA has spent over $20,000 from this fund to support remote learning and families in need and we will continue to do so as we look to supporting administration and staff in their preparations for the fall semester.
Thank you for all you do,
