Families, there are just a few weeks left until summer break, which means this is your child's final opportunity to earn their Aid & Action merit pins this school year! Here are the upcoming ways to get involved:
1. Morning CHiPS Collection - Food Drive Pin Next 2 Wednesdays
First, we have just two Wednesdays left to collect for CHiPS, with Wednesday, June 17th marking our final collection of the school year.
So far, our community has collected an incredible 164 bags—can we push to reach 200 in these final two weeks?!
Your child can earn their Food Drive merit pin by volunteering at the CHiPS table before school starts. If they would like to help out, please email Julie Mee Schmidt at juliem@ps107.org.
2. Community Clothing Swap at PS 124 - Clothing Drive Pin, Saturday June 13th
Our second big opportunity is happening this Saturday, June 13th from 10:30am to 12:30pm at PS 124 for the final clothing swap of the year. This is a true mutual aid event open to everyone in the community. You are warmly invited to donate clean, gently used summer clothing, or simply "shop" for items your own family might need—there is absolutely no obligation to donate in order to take items home.
Kids can earn their Clothing Drive merit pin here by staying to help us sort and fold the clothes.
If you are only dropping off donations, we kindly ask that items are clean, high-quality, in-season, and pre-sorted by size and gender. Any donated housewares should be in good working order.
3. Student-Led Service Projects - Action Volunteer Pin, ANYTIME!
Finally, we always love seeing our students take the initiative to care for the world around them. If your child has a fresh idea for a service project, or if they have already completed one independently, please reach out and let us know.
No project is too small to make a meaningful difference.
We are always here to help bring their wonderful ideas to life, and we would love nothing more than to recognize their hard work and leadership with an Aid & Action merit pin before summer break begins.
THANK YOU PS 107!!
Looking back, it has been an absolutely amazing year of fulfilling our mission to lead with kindness and impactful service.
Together, we provided essential Aid and took purposeful Action right here in our immediate Park Slope community and alongside our sister school, PS 124. Whether we were rallying for the incredible food drive back in the fall, collecting goods to package care kits for our Bundles of Hope campaign, or sorting mountains of clothes at our swaps, we did it all as a community.
These moments do so much more than benefit those in need—they help our students develop a lifelong commitment to active citizenship, charitable giving, and improving the world around them.
We wish everyone a wonderful, safe, and relaxing summer ahead!
If you have any questions about these final events, or if your kids have service project ideas over the break, please don't hesitate to reach out to Julie (juliem@ps107.org) or Tyghe (tyghe@ps107.org).
With gratitude,
Your Aid & Action Committee
