Bundles of Hope

This past Friday, 17 incredible students worked together to pack 100 kits using items donated entirely by our community.  These kits, along with additional donations, are being delivered this week to the Rosa Parks and Shirley Chisholm Family Residences.

Before getting to work, we spoke with the students about the realities of homelessness.  We discussed how many women in our community are staying in temporary shelters, often arriving without their personal belongings.  Our goal was to provide more than just soap and toothbrushes; we wanted to send a clear message: "You are not alone, and your neighbors care about you."

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported our Bundles of Hope campaign!  Whether you donated essentials or rolled up your sleeves to pack kits, your generosity made this initiative a reality.

A Special Shout-Out to Our Student Packers:

Adrian E., Akira A., August R., Eleanor O., Eleanor Y., Eloise F., Emilia X., Ethan X., Gabriel T., Ivy R., Lilly V., Liv R., Louise W., Nai S., Ruby Z., Sidney O., and Simone B.

Spread Love to Minneapolis Letter Campaign

If your child participated in our Mid-Winter Break Service Project and wrote a letter to a peer in Minneapolis, please drop it off in the main office with Ms. Nadia by the end of this week.  We will be forwarding these to ACE (a school in Minneapolis) and a local mutual aid group.

Save the Date: Mid-Winter Clothing Swap

When: Saturday, March 7th  10:30am - 12:30pm

Where: PS 124

This is a mutual aid event open to everyone! You are invited to donate clean, gently used winter and spring clothing, and "shop" for items your family might need. There is no obligation to donate in order to take items.

How to Get Involved:

  • Bring your child to help sort and fold clothes!  It’s a great way for them to earn their Clothing Drive Merit Pin.
  • If you are only dropping off items, please ensure they are pre-sorted by size and gender.
  • We kindly ask for clean, high-quality, in-season items. Housewares should be in good working order.

Aid & Action: Merit Pin Updates

We have many students who are just one pin away from becoming an Aid & Action Ambassador and getting their ambassador pin!  See the attached pdf for the current standings.

Here is how they can earn their final pins:

  • Action Volunteer Pin: Write a letter for the Spread Love to Minneapolis campaign by the end of this week.
  • Clothing Drive Pin: Volunteer at the PS 124 Clothing Swap on March 7th.
  • Food Drive Pin: Help at our CHiPS collection table any Wednesday morning (8:10–8:20am).

Community Bake Sale

Lastly, wrap up your weekend of service on Sunday, March 8th, at the "Ice Cakes Not People" Community Bake Sale.  Held at By Clio Bakery (400 3rd Ave) from 12:00 to 4:00pm, all proceeds will benefit immigrant rights organizations.  Please come prepared to pay via cash or Venmo.

If you are interested in contributing baked goods or getting involved, you can reach out to alex@alexlarosabakery.com.

Thank you for being such an active, caring part of our community!
