5th grade green team analyzes school waste
- 5th grade will ask students to pledge for plastic reduction: Did you know that the 5th grade has a green team that meets weekly, coached by Mr. Ed? At their last meeting, the kids collected and analyzed plastic from around the school bins to identify where we can reduce single use items. They identified plastic utensils, snacks in zip lock bags, and water bottles as items we can eliminate with some commitment from students and parents. Their next step is to get upper grade students to sign a pledge committing to bringing reusable utensils, water bottles, and snack packaging (bag or Tupperware). The PTA green committee is asking the adults to please support your students in this effort. We’ll share more info when the 5th grade team is ready!
- Terracycle collection this Wed: The 1st collection is here! This Wed Nov 13 (and again Nov 20), we will be collecting oral care items, squeezy pouches (any brand - see details below), Brita filters, and torn/stained (non-donatable) kids clothing. The 5th grade green team then sorts items and earns points to support causes of their choice. Last year we collected nearly 160 pounds of material and gave to several causes including the National Wildlife Federation.
Thank you to the 5th grade green team for your dedication and your leadership!
