Hello PS 107 Families-
We hope this email finds you all healthy and hanging in there. As you may have noticed, our PTA meeting scheduled for Wednesday did not happen. To be honest, we have struggled with the best way to communicate with our community. It has been hard to come up with an agenda as we face so many unknowns right now. Along with everyone in the NY Public school system, we are waiting to hear on school budgets for next year and information on a return to school. Finally, we are sure many of you feel you have enough video meetings in your life right now.
So we are writing to say hello and that we are thinking of all of you. To let you know we know how difficult the last couple months have been. We recognize and appreciate how very hard PS107 teachers have worked to get remote learning up and running. Looking back over the past 2+ months they have done so much for our families and for that we are so grateful.
We also recognize that remote learning is far from ideal and it certainly is not the same as having the kids back in school. We know so much additional responsibility has fallen on all parents. We know how hard you are working. We thank you for sharing Google Classroom tips and activities that your kids have liked; working with our teachers to make remote learning a little better and a little more doable every single day.
We also recognize that this is a time when just getting through the day's to do list can be daunting at best. Please know we are here, we are so impressed by our community and we are rooting for you all. We will get through this. Our children will get through this. Our parent community is one of the main reasons PS107 so extraordinary. So thank you for everything you have done and continue to do- for your kids and our PS107 community.
We also wanted to let you know about some activities that are still moving ahead, specifically for our graduating 5th graders. Staff, parents, teachers and the PTA are working to finalize the yearbook and T-shirts. They are also putting on the 5th grade talent show. It won't be the same as years past but we believe we are creating something positive and memorable.
We need to give a shout out to the Community Outreach Committee supporting a Gofundme to help PS 169, a community that is facing food insecurity amongst other challenges.
Finally, we know next year is so uncertain and we are going to need all the help we can get. If you have any bandwidth, we are looking for additional members to the PTA board. More than ever we are going to need our dedicated community to make the best of what is to come next year. Specifically we are looking for Co-Communications chairs. Fall Festival and Auction Chairs are also needed, (at this point not knowing what they will look like next year.).
Thanks for taking the time to read this. Please stay safe. We will be in touch.
Hope you had a good Memorial Day Weekend,
The PS 107 PTA
