Some PS 107 families have expressed interest in learning about strategies to combat racism and bias. In response to this, the PTA is pleased to have secured seats for all who are interested at a two-part workshop facilitated by Sachi Feris of Raising Race Conscious Children.
In these two 1.5 hour-long workshops parents and guardians will develop the confidence to talk about race with children, practice various strategies to proactively talk about race with children, and strengthen their child’s ability to become a change-maker. You can read more about the workshop at http://www.raceconscious.org/workshops-and-consultations. These virtual, public, interactive workshops are geared towards anti-racist White parents/guardians, however all are welcome to attend.
The first 1.5 hour workshop will be held on Sunday, March 14 at 8:00 pm and the follow-up workshop (also 1.5 hours) will be held on Sunday, March 21 at 8:00 pm.
Please sign up here and NOT on the Raising Race Conscious Children website, as the PS 107 PTA has covered the cost of your ticket. If there is another adult in your family who would like to join on a separate device, please register each adult individually. While attendance is encouraged at both sessions, it is fine to only join the first session. Please note that registration for this event will close on Saturday, March 7 at 10:00 pm.
If you have questions, please reach out to Sompon Oerlemans, Diversity Committee parent representative, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
