BROOKLYN HALF + TERRACYCLE COLLECTION

Coming up this week:

  • Recruiting new Community Outreach Leadership - It's not as time consuming as you might think!
  • Help PS107 raise $2500 for the PTA - Volunteers needed for April 28th Brooklyn Half Marathon. Sign up here. (We must register our group by April 12th in order to get the award.)
  • Weekly CHiPs Food Drive - Donate Wednesday mornings
  • Terracycle collection - Donate Wednesday mornings, details below
  • 5th Grade Sandwich Making Project. 4th and 5th grade parent volunteers needed.
  • Email emilybhager@gmail.com, if interested in participating in any of the above.

April Terracycle Collection:

Collections will be every Wednesday in April, starting April 3. These items will be sorted by students, then sent to Terracycle instead of landfills.  Our school earns points towards actions such as planting trees to help reforestation, and reducing carbon from the atmosphere. So far PS107 has diverted 30 lbs of waste! See the links below, or attached flyer for details for what’s accepted.

    1. Non-donatable baby & kid clothing (all brands)  (Must be clean/washed.) (No shoes or accessories please.)
    2. VTech and LeapFrog electronic learning devices and toys  (Batteries removed.)
    3. Oral care / deodorant (all brands)
    4. Squeezy pouches (all brands)

Community Outreach 2024/2025:

Are you interested in joining the Community Outreach Committee.  We are looking to fill a co-chair position, and others. The commitment to being on the PTA Executive Board is not as time consuming as you might think. Or be part of our collection drives, which are a great way to learn how our initiatives and community partnerships work. Is there a particular collection you'd like to lead? Suitcase collection for Floyd Bennett Field? Blanket collection? Book drive? Park cleanup? Please reach out to emilybhager@gmail.com & jeanne@ps107.org if you're interested in participating.

5th Grade Sandwich Making Project:

Recently, Melissa Newkirk, who is director of volunteers and community engagement at CHiPs, gave the 5th Grade a Zoom-based presentation about CHiPs and how making a sandwich is one of the most impactful things a kid can do in terms of community service. The 5th grade will begin a weekly sandwich making project. 4th and 5th Grade parent volunteers needed. Please sign-up here.

As always...

We also highly recommend listening (over the course of subway rides and car trips) to this background on Mutual Aid, its history and principles, and the opportunity mutual aid presents to build new social relationships:
