Hello PS 107 Families,
Happy October! We are finishing up our third week of school, and we continue to have zero COVID cases. This puts us in the minority of NYC public schools with zero cases, and we are incredibly grateful to all of you for your vigilance and support, which combined with our in-school mitigation measures, has enabled us to remain COVID free.
We must continue to be careful, particularly as chillier weather sets in and we spend more time indoors, allowing viruses to spread. Please remember to:
- keep your child home if they have COVID symptoms;
- get your child tested if they have COVID symptoms (we recommend PCR tests, which are more accurate);
- reinforce the importance of mask-wearing in school - masks should fit snugly around the mouth and nose and be comfortable for children (we recommend KN-95 or KF-94 masks; note that masks with vents or gaiters are not permitted).
In addition, we recommend regularly testing your entire family to monitor for COVID. Check here for COVID testing locations.
If you have questions regarding COVID safety at school, please don't hesitate to reach out to Ms Rinah, chair of PS 107's Safety Committee, at firstname.lastname@example.org
Attached to this message, you will also find the DOE's Family Update for the week of September 27th. It includes information on the DOE's new quarantine policies, which took effect this week. Although the new policy only requires us to notify families of children identified as "close contacts" of a student who has tested positive, we will continue our practice of notifying the entire class if a student in the class tests positive. While only those identified as close contacts will be required to quarantine, families may choose to voluntarily quarantine as well. As always, please let us know if you have questions about this.
Thank you again for all of your efforts to keep PS 107 safe and healthy. Please keep an eye out for my principal's fall newsletter (on topics other than COVID!) early next week. In the meantime, here is a photo of our students enjoying the beautiful weather -- and new recess materials -- this week.
Have a wonderful weekend,
