Hi everyone,
We hope you all enjoy the Thanksgiving break!
Sending along a quick reminder in advance of the holiday season and Giving Tuesday about local organizations that support our greater community. There are a lot of opportunities in Brooklyn, and we recommend checking out and following these organizations for more information!
- City Harvest is New York City’s largest food rescue organization, helping to feed millions of New Yorkers. City Harvest will rescue 75 million pounds of food this year and deliver it, free of charge, to hundreds of food pantries, soup kitchens, and other community partners across the five boroughs. Learn more about ways to become involved, participate in advocacy efforts, and shop the City Harvest Holiday Gift Guide to help feed New Yorkers in need over the holidays.
- Masbia Soup Kitchen Network’s emergency food programs serve over 2 million meals a year via hot, sit-down dinners, and the rest in emergency care packages for families in need. Check out their current campaigns and upcoming events for more information.
- CHiPS is a local soup kitchen and shelter for homeless pregnant women and infants, serving Brooklyn since 1971. Follow them on instagram to check for real-time needs, campaigns, and volunteer opportunities.
- Camp Friendship Food Pantry distributes bags of produce, pantry items, and prepared meals weekly at the Camp Friendship club house on 8th Street & 6th Avenue. Check out their website for ways to volunteer and donate to the cause.
Shortly after the break, be on the lookout for more information regarding the upcoming District 15 Day of Action - A Community Coming Together to fight food and clothing insecurity. This effort during the first few weeks of December will involve food, clothing, and toy donations, as well as student involvement and a community celebration. More information to follow...
We wish everyone an enjoyable and safe break!
