Community Outreach Newsletter: Empanadas, Book Sale & Coat Drive

GIVING TUESDAY

As we gathered with family and friends last week, one of the things for which we were most grateful is the emotional boost PS107s community service work gives amid this rough world. The kids, staff, and parents are constantly exchanging a chorus of "How can I help? How can I give?" Often, the "giving" is time. There are lots of ways to do it right now, and we promise you it feels great. If it makes more sense for you to donate money, both PS107's annual fund and PS124's Winter Wonderland Party have matching gifts today.

Winter Craft Bazar

Grab a shift here, particularly during cleanup. We're also thrilled to share that parents from PS 124 will be selling empanadas, tequeños, arepas and other savory treats at the Winter Craft Bazar. This is a huge step for our schools' partnership. If you're a Spanish speaker, please take some time to introduce yourself and your kids to them. Check out what's on their menu, below.

Book Sale

We'll be running another book sale in the cafeteria at the Winter Craft Bazar. Please come shop for gifts for your loved ones. What you buy will give each kindergartener at PS169 a present and support holiday festivities at PS124.

District 15 Coat Drive

This is not your traditional coat drive. There is no immediate place to drop off. If you've got a new (or newish) coat to donate, please hold on to it.  Here's why: Schools across District 15 are working directly with parent coordinators to discreetly determine who needs a winter coat. We are matched with PS124 and expect further details by December 8th.

This effort is using the mutual aid model, if you'd like to see it in action, join the D15 Coat Operation WhatsApp: https://chat.whatsapp.com/FAJNOP1fPqW7AlQ4sg3mJi

Friendship Toy Drive

Camp Friendship will be collecting toys through 12/15 and will distribute on 12/17. Drop off locations are all through the neighborhood. Here's a link for more information.

We also highly recommend listening (over the course of subway rides and car trips) to this background on Mutual Aid, its history and principles, and the opportunity mutual aid presents to build new social relationships:
