Community Outreach Update - CHiPS, Book Drive, and a Big THANK YOU!
Tue, Feb 28 3:02pm

Hi everyone,

Welcome back from mid-winter break!

First off, thank you to the entire school community for your support just prior to the break and especially on Valentine's Day! CHiPS was very grateful for the donations, as were Bishop Boardman and the Women's Shelter for their Valentine's Day cards!

In addition, thank you to all who supported the Bake Sale on 2/14 to raise funds for the people of Turkey and Northern Syria in the aftermath of the earthquakes. We had a great turnout and were able to raise $1,660.00

Thanks to corporate matching, $1,660 (double the original amount) was donated to the Bridge to Turkiye Fund supporting Turkey and $830 was donated to White Helmets supporting Syria, for a total of $2,490.00! A very special thanks to our organizers: Elif Franco, Ayca Aksu, and Olga Morkova!

*Note: If you are missing any Tupperware or serving plates, feel free to reach out to us directly.

Here is some info on two other events happening this week.

Book Drive - Now through March 12th!
It's time for another round of clearing out bookshelves! Brooklyn's AYSO and Gjoa Soccer Leagues are running a book drive for asylum seeking families.

If you would like to participate, please deliver any new or gently used books (for ages 0-18) to the home of Bruce Shearouse, Brooklyn AYSO Region 473 Community Affairs Director, who will coordinate sorting, delivery, and redistribution via Brooklyn Book Bodega.

Drop off Location: All donations may be left at the top of the stoop on the right side at 491 1st St. (Please check the weather for rain before dropping off.)

Dates: Now through March 12!

Weekly CHiPS Donations - Tomorrow 3/1!
Just a reminder that tomorrow (Wednesday, 3/1) we will be collecting food donations to support CHiPS Food Pantry.  Families can bring donations Wednesday morning during drop-off at the Main Entrance and they will be driven to CHiPS immediately after.

There will be a table outside during Drop-Off for the collection (for early drop-off, donations can be left in the main entrance way).

CHiPS currently serves a record-breaking 300+ breakfast and lunch meals per day – double last year's amount - in addition to their regular client base, they have seen an influx of asylum seekers that are being housed near CHiPS.  The following items are urgently needed as pantry items and to help supplement the meals they put out from their kitchen.

Please label all prepared items - we welcome anything that is nutritious and can be easily handed out, including:

  • Eggs
  • Lunch meats for Sandwiches, Bread
  • Ground Coffee, Sugar
  • Cereal
  • Shelf Stable Milk
  • Fresh Fruit (Oranges/Bananas; NO apples please)
  • Juice Boxes/Water Bottles
  • Individually Wrapped Snacks (Bars/Cookies/Snack Bags)

For anyone unable to make it tomorrow, we’ll collect again next week! Also please consider online support at chipsonline.org/donate, and you can find a list of specific needs for the CHiPS Soup Kitchen on this Amazon wish list

Thank you,
