Dear PS 107 Families and Staff,
The Diversity Committee would like to send a heartfelt "Thank you!" to all of our families and staff that joined us in the Family Friendly March for Racial Equity organized by PS 10 yesterday! We are so grateful to PS 10 for inviting us to join them in this important event.
Although we only had a few days to organize a group, we had a wonderful turnout! Our 107 community showed up!! We are particularly proud of our students who tirelessly chanted under the hot sun, as we marched from our school to K280. There we joined with PS 10 to begin the second march! Their commitment was inspiring and filled us with promise for a reimagined future! Thank you for partnering with us in this endeavor. We have much work to do!
Below is a link to NY1's coverage of the march. Although PS 10 was only named, you can see our students and staff en masse. We'd like to extend a very special congratulations to our 3rd grade student Omer "Cem" Caliskan who articulately expressed himself and proudly displayed the sign he made for the protest. Great job Cem!
We still have two events going on:
- We kicked off PS 107's "Spread Love and Stand Against Racism" campaign yesterday. It's a way for students, staff and families to use art to share a message against racism and spread love for those impacted by it. We have created a kudoboard where everyone can post their work https://www.kudoboard.
Ms. Julie also created this awesome lesson for the project. . It has been posted in Google Classroom.
We hope families will take a pic of their art/sign for our kudoboard so we have a digital collection for our community. We are asking everyone to post by 6/16.
- We created a PS 107 Words of Support Wall on 6/9. Please see the photos of our wall below! We encourage everyone to stop by, read some powerful messages and post your own sign!
We will be initiating more events in the weeks to come. Please email Ms Rinah at firstname.lastname@example.org i
f you'd like to join the Diversity Committee.
We are 107!
