The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service is honored nationwide as an opportunity to remember the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.
If you are looking for opportunities to volunteer, here are links to some Day of Service activities for families:
- The Food Bank for New York: Find a food bank near you in any of the five boroughs and register in advance.
- Repair the World : This organization offers a variety of family-friendly volunteer activities, many on MLK day.
- The 19th Annual MLK Serve- A-Thon: Join in this this annual event to help serve meals at soup kitchens and food pantries across NYC.
Thank you and have a great (and giving) MLK Day!
