Fun green event sign-ups and Earth Month preview!
Tue, Mar 11 4:56pm

Lots of important info re: upcoming events (sign-ups) and an Earth Month preview!

Science fair and sustainable energy! (Science teacher Barnes and the 4th grade presented their sustainable energy science fair projects… sharing with their adults about solar, wind, and hydro energy. They learned so much!)

🧦Terracycle collection: Keep collecting at home, and we’ll collect at school on April 25 and May 2. Note: We have reduced what we will collect to squeezy pouches (any brand), worn-out socks, and torn-stained (non-donatable) kids clothing. The 5th grade green committee then sorts items and earns points to support causes of their choice. Last year we collected nearly 160 pounds of material and gave to several causes including the National Wildlife Federation.

🌳Park clean-ups April 6 and May 3 - Adults and students will gather to clean up garbage from a chosen section of the park. Sign-ups here! April 6 and May 3

📽️Free Screening of the award winning "Microplastics Madness" on Thursday, March 27th, from 6-8 at the Park Slope United Methodist Church, 410 6th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11215. The film was created by Cafeteria Culture and showcases an inspiring Brooklyn public school! Register Here to attend.

🧾How else is PS107 honoring Earth Month?

  • Green Committee will share a book list for parents.
  • Gardening Committee needs preparing the garden for Spring! Sign up coming.
  • 5th grade will be doing morning announcements.
  • Afterschool is making posters that will be hung around the school
  • We are lining up a letter-writing campaign to support clean energy in NY State!

☘️☕ Shout-out and thank you to the Shamrock run and Warm Hearts, Warm Drinks Fundraiser! The Shamrock run is replacing green plastic beads with a more earth-friendly surprise. The Warm Hearts, Warm Drinks event is taking $1 off all hot chocolates for bringing your reusable mug! These are two new and wonderful changes… thank you event planners!
