Dear families,
The PS 107 AAPI (Asian American & Pacific Islander) Affinity Group would like to wish our school community a happy Lunar New Year! The Year of the Fire Horse brings energy, courage, and transformation to 2026. Celebrations across a range of Asian cultures and the Asian American diaspora emphasize community strength, good fortune, health, and renewal.
This year, Lunar New Year begins on February 17 with the new moon. Celebrations start on New Year's Eve (February 16) and end with the Lantern Festival on March 3, the date of the next full moon which is a blood moon (total lunar eclipse) this year!
We’ve compiled a list (see below) of the many Lunar New Year celebrations happening throughout New York City over the next few weeks, as well as some restaurant and children’s book recommendations. Later this month, you’ll also find an origami craft in your children's folders.
May all our families come together for a joyous year of the Fire Horse!
Warm wishes, PS 107 AAPI Affinity Group
