June is Caribbean American Heritage Month!

June is Caribbean American Heritage Month! The Caribbean is a rich melting pot of cultures, and while there are many overlapping identities with other heritage months, many Caribbean Americans primarily identify as Caribbean American. That’s why it was important for us to celebrate and ensure that Caribbean American families in our PS107 community feel seen and represented.

This Friday at 4pm, a Moko Jumbie group will be joining our afterschool program to celebrate with us. Please check Pamela’s Afterschool End-of-Year message for more details.

We’ve attached a newsletter from the PTA DEI Committee, filled with history, resources, books, events, and more!

Inspired by our recent DEI workshops — Shaping a Compassionate and Welcoming School Community — Together — we’ve also created posters to help our community explore the names of foods and places that may not be familiar to everyone. We hope these posters serve not only as learning tools, but also as a means of self-affirmation, celebrating our diverse identities and heritage. While visiting PS 107, look out for those posters, as well as those featuring Caribbean American staff and students!

Happy Caribbean American Heritage Month!
