As Mid-Winter Break begins, the Diversity Committee wanted to share some ways you and your family can join in Lunar New Year celebrations as well as celebrate Black History Month. Please see below for some resources.

Ways to Celebrate Lunar New Year

Things to do, virtually:
- Join the Metropolitan Museum of Art in some free family-friendly art events
- Watch the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company perform a family-friendly celebration of the in honor of the Chinese Lunar New Year. Tickets are free and performances run from February 12 through February 14 at various times throughout the day.
Things to watch:
- See how Asian countries celebrate the new year in different ways
- Watch this read aloud of Mulan’s Lunar New Year

Ways to Celebrate Black History Month

Things to do, virtually:
- Take a free “trip” to Washington DC and take a virtual tour of the National Museum of African American History and Culture and visit the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial
- Find a person in black history who shares a birthday with someone in your family and research that person’s impact on the world
Things to read:
- Commit to buying and reading a book by a black author; please see here and here for some suggestions for children’s books
- Because of Them We Can has some great short articles; feel free to share these stories of Black Girl Magic happening within local and national government:
Things to watch:
- Watch BrainPop’s Black Lives Matter video
- Share poetry by Amanda Gorman, the National Youth Poet Laureate
- “Talking Gets Us There”
- “The Hill We Climb” from the presidential inauguration
- “The Chorus of Captains” from Super Bowl LV
