Making Caring Common is a groundbreaking program which was created at Harvard University and aims to foster a positive, caring culture of kindness in schools. It is designed for grades K-12 and is more than a curriculum - it's about changing how kids treat each other and teaching them how to care for one another by getting the whole community involved including parents, teachers and students.
The lessons are primarily parent-led, and we are looking to bring this program on fully in 2025-26 but for now, Harvard is trialing this with 107 and "gifting" us two kindness lessons we will bring to our classrooms which is starting this March,
If you're interested in volunteering this year, here is the commitment:
- A short (30 min) intro zoom with Harvard to learn more about the program and prep you for bringing the lesson to the classroom
- For now, two kindness prep and lessons an hour total commitment
- 30 minutes zoom to learn the lesson
- 30 minute lesson in the classroom..
Below is a bit more about the program and some links as well. We are currently scheduled to hold our first lessons next month, and we have a zoom call with our project lead from Harvard this Thursday at 12:30 pm est.
If you’d like to join and are interested in volunteering, please contact Pam Murphy at pamlewy@gmail.com
Thank you!

Making Caring Common promotes kindness and empathy, caring for others -- especially those who are different from us and even when it's not easy to be kind. It was successfully piloted at 3rd Street Elementary in Los Angeles over the past two years, and we're excited for PS 107 to offer the program this year, in the hopes of expanding Making Caring Common to other school communities.
Here's a segment on KTLA that highlights the program as well as this NBCLA clip
