A Note From POWERHOUSE on 8TH
Dear PS107 families.
We at POWERHOUSE ON 8TH hope that you and your family are all staying safe and healthy in these challenging times.
Many of you might know Daniel and I, owners of the two Powerhouse bookstores in Dumbo and here in South Slope. We have lived here in this community for 18 years now. Our son, a senior at Beacon High School, was born here, and we are very proud PS 107 parent alumni. Back in the day we helped the school transition the spring gala from Two Boots and modest fundraising to stellar, highly successful events down in Dumbo at our old space. Daniel volunteered weekly for Ms. Diane when PS 107 first received access to the Armory. Our bookstores have always donated to the PS 107 gala, Read-a-Thon, Fall Festival and hosted the annual Reading to Dogs Kindergarten event at our store. Our most recent endeavors with the school were the shop-local replacement of the old Scholastic book fairs, offering kids a wider and more stimulating selection of books and raising the school's take on book sales.
We are facing some unprecedented hardship now that our family-owned bookstores have had to close as a non-essential business activity.
Our landlord here in the South Slope is a PS 107 family of 3 girls, and our closure has created a hardship for them as well.
While we have suspended payments to our vendors, we want to dedicate all the revenue we can for them and for our staff. So we created an Easter and Passover campaign to find homes for our wonderful stuffed animals and books sitting alone in our darkened storefront. Click below to find fun stuffed bunny, farm, food toys and book bundles to enjoy with your kids (heck adapt a set for yourselves, we won't tell!) We are also happy to add any games, activity, science, nature or chapter books , and novels for all ages.
We hope you are able to support your local indie bookstore now by checking out our website and our newsletter below or by purchasing a gift card online.
