Please consider signing up to join PS 107 gym teacher Ali Annunziato in the garden on a Monday morning (parents only) or afternoon (parents and kids) to help clean the beds and make way for new growth next spring! Ali is working hard to spruce up the garden, make it more interactive, and turn it into an engaging school day learning space.
We would love your help to prepare the garden area so we can welcome our chickens into their new home once they are big enough. Our goal is to have our garden used frequently by all of the students and tie it into the curriculum for all grades.
Research shows that school gardens nurture healthy kids, foster environmental stewardship, and promote engaged learning. In the garden, when kids plant seeds, tend to and harvest them, they are more likely to eat healthy food, feel a connection to the natural world, and be engaged in their community.
Can't make it on Monday's but still want to get your hands dirty? Please reach out to Ali AAnnunziato@schools.nyc.gov if you have availability and would like to garden another day.
Can't make it to garden? Please consider donating an item from Ms. Ali's garden and gym wishlist.
Some fun images below from Ms. Ali and the Garden Committee's tour, led by enthusiastic first graders, of the chicken and garden program at Brooklyn New School. Together, as a community, BNS has been growing their garden and tending to their chickens for 9 years!
