Parent Coordinator Updates - Return to School Information Part 2

Hello Families,

This week, we are sending this message to all families via both Operoo and Konstella.  We will begin sending our grade-wide and school-wide communications using only the Konstella platform shortly. Please make sure you are signed up for Konstella (see below for directions).

There is a lot of information in this email. Please take the time to read through this entire message. Thank you!

Dear PS 107 Families,

The first two days of school passed by in the blink of an eye! Your children eagerly joined their new classmates and teachers on Thursday and have been getting to know one another and learning the routines of the new school year ever since.

A great deal of time at the beginning of each year is spent introducing and going over new routines and expectations so that they become second nature. We encourage teachers to co-construct these routines and expectations with their students so that students feel that their views and experiences are respected and considered and so that they feel an important part of the larger classroom community. Still, not every routine and classroom expectation will be to a child’s liking, and you may hear that they are spending a lot of time practicing lining up or are listening to basic routines about how to choose books from the classroom library more than they’d like.

I can promise you that all of this serves a purpose and helps our classrooms to run more smoothly and peacefully throughout the course of the school year. In addition, routines provide predictability and structure, which helps to reduce feelings of uncertainty and anxiety (in all of us!). If you have questions about the routines and expectations in your children’s classrooms or in shared spaces like the cafeteria or the play yards, don’t hesitate to reach out directly to your children’s teachers or, for schoolwide routines, to me, Ms Rinah, or Ms Nadia.

We are looking forward to our first full week of school and to continuing to learn and grow together as a community this year.

Ms Joanna

  1. Please remember that updates to the routine must be noted on the Daily Dismissal Form AND emailed to classroom teachers and parent coordinator.
  2. Last minute pickup change - call or email parent coordinator

TOMORROW: Students in grades 2-5 will go to their classrooms on their own (yes!). If you anticipate your child needing extra assistance to come into the building, send us an email tonight or early tomorrow morning!

And for K and 1, teachers will continue to come downstairs to pick up their students according to the schedule below:

  • Kindergarten: Teachers come down 9/12, 9/13, 9/14. On 9/15, Kindergartners go to their classrooms on their own! (Yes! They can do it! And we will have lots of people helping along the way.)
  • 1st Grade: Teachers come down until 9/12. On 9/13, students go into their classrooms on their own!

Please parents, remember to label your student’s water bottles, lunch boxes, backpacks, and clothing with their name and if there is space, please include their class number. We want to be able to return all  fabulous items to their rightful owner!

Breakfast and lunch are available for free at school for all students, daily. For breakfast, we are providing the Breakfast Express menu which is a "grab and go" meal for the students as they enter the building.  The meals are available by arrival locations for kindergarten, first grade, and 2nd through 5th. We will make sure to show children where they can grab their breakfasts.

For lunch, we follow the PreK-8 Express Hot Lunch menu. The best way to keep track of what is being served is on the School Food app (the option is actually listed as K-8 Hot Express on the app) , the link to download the app can be found on this page

** Note that food substitutions may occur based on supply chain issues, and we do not recommend relying on school food if your child is not a flexible eater.

This is a NYC DOE parent account that’s used from PreK - 12th grade where parents/guardians can view all of their children’s records - grades, attendance, your child’s DOE email, etc. At least one parent/guardian will need to have access to this account. We strongly encourage all parents/guardians to have their own account. Any parent with children in grades 1-5 who does not have their own NYCSA, please contact for instructions and your unique account creation code.

PLEASE NOTE: Incoming PreK and Kindergarten families will need to wait until the second week of school to receive their students unique id number. Once your child has been given their ID number, I will share directions along with unique account creation codes with you to open your NYCSA.

All families should complete the Family Income Inquiry Form, which helps schools receive money for their programs, whether or not they qualify for free or reduced lunch. Please complete this important form as soon as possible!
