PARENT COORDINATOR UPDATES

Dear PS 107 Families.

Wishing all of our PS 107 community a wonderful holiday season full of love, good cheer, and much happiness  and joy!

See you all in the New Year!

Please see below for Ms. Joanna’s weekly message and updates from myself and the PTA.

MESSAGE FROM MS JOANNA

 Dear PS 107 Families,

Winter Break is fast approaching, and we have a week filled with celebratory gatherings at PS 107! I know that we are all looking forward to the coming week of festivities, along with the following holiday week of time with family and friends. We want to be sure that everyone is able to enjoy this upcoming time, and to that end, I am sharing the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s indoor masking recommendation. With high levels of respiratory viruses currently circulating in NYC, including flu, RSV, and COVID, DOHMH is currently urging all New Yorkers to wear high-quality masks when indoors, including in schools. While not a requirement, we at 107 do believe that mask-wearing this week will help all of our community members stay healthy so that we can enjoy the togetherness of the holiday season.

I also wanted to bring your attention to a very important District 15 Superintendent’s Town Hall that is happening on Zoom this Wednesday, December 21st, 6:30-8 pm. At this meeting, there will be a presentation called What is Bullying? Supporting Students and Understanding the Difference Between Bullying and Conflict. You can register to attend this Wednesday’s Town Hall (and the Superintendent’s monthly Town Halls) here

As we head into the winter holidays, which all bring light to us during the darkest time of the year, I have been reflecting on how grateful I am for the 107 community. Your generosity of spirit and your care for the whole of our community is what makes PS 107 such a special place. I wish you and your loved ones the happiest of holidays and hope that the coming break gives you time to reflect, restore, and renew.

Warmly,

Ms Joanna

REMINDERS

ARRIVAL SAFETY

First grade families, please have your students line up by the gate until the doors are open and Ms. Sharon and Nurse Kara say it's clear to come in. Students should not be on the stairs at all and should not be near the door.  The stairs are not a  safe place for standing and the doors swing open toward the stairs, so sometimes the students have been in a position of being right where the doors open and could be hurt.

There will be signs to guide the students and show where they should line up, but it is similar to where they would meet their teachers in the beginning of the year.

ILLNESS

We are respectfully requesting that if your child is not feeling well or running a temperature, please keep your child home. We have a lot of viral activity in the school building right now. Instances of covid aside, we also have a real uptick in Influenza in the school and it should not be underestimated as far as illnesses go.
With the holidays approaching, it will be important for everyone as they gather with loved ones to come together to protect each other.  We appreciate your assistance in keeping our school community safe.

ABSENCES

Please be sure to notify teachers via email and cc Nadia (parentcoordinator@ps107.org) if your child will be absent.  You can also call the main office at 718-499-2054, ext 1031

LATENESS/EARLY PICKUP

We ask that you email both your teacher and cc Nadia (parentcoordinator@ps107.org) if your child will be late or picked up early. If the office knows ahead of time, we can avoid a child being marked absent unnecessarily or we can be sure that the timing for picking up your child will be optimal to make the process as smooth as possible.

LOST AND FOUND
We will bag all lost and found items before the holiday break, so please be sure to check the virtual lost and found for your child's items.

*Please continue to label your children’s items with their Full Name (First,Last) and classroom.  The full name is important as we do have students with the same first name and it helps us to identify. Including the classroom saves the extra step of having to look up children in Operoo to find their classrooms to return the items to them.

Together with Ms. Rinah, we are focusing on low-waste and green practices.  We are seeking volunteers to help us achieve this -- specifically, people who can help at PTA events with recycling and education, organize green volunteer activities (e.g. clean-ups, gardens), partner with teachers on green initiatives, or carry forward your own green ideas!.  We need you! Please contact Kajal Patel (kajalpatelbelow@gmail.com) or sign up here.
