PARENT COORDINATOR UPDATES

Dear PS 107 Families.

I hope you all had a restful weekend after that first full week back in action!

I am looking forward to seeing some of you at the holiday craft fair on December 10th!

Please see below for Ms. Joanna’s weekly message and updates from myself and the PTA.

MESSAGE FROM MS JOANNA

Dear PS 107 Families,

The holiday season is upon us! During this time of giving, District 15 has designated December 15th as a district-wide Day of Action, where the entire community will come together in support of families in need.

What does this mean? All next week, December 5th-9th, PS 107 (along with all schools in District 15) will be collecting winter gear, non-perishable food items, toiletries, and small toys for families in need. We will have collection boxes at the main entrance and the Big Yard entrance on 8th Avenue all week. Items will then be delivered to a centralized location, sorted, organized and provided to families across the District 15 community, prioritizing those who are asylum-seekers and not eligible for government assistance.

The culmination of all of this will be the district-wide Day of Action on December 15th from 4 to 5:30 pm at PS 24 in Sunset Park. All District 15 community members are invited to attend this event, where there will be student performances, displays of artwork, and presentations by local elected officials and District 15 Superintendent Rafael Alvarez. If you would like to attend, please see this event announcement and RSVP by clicking the link in the flyer.

Please bring donations of these items to PS 107 the week of December 5th, and please join the community celebration on December 15th if you are able to. During this busy holiday season, we are so grateful for your support of those in the greatest need.

Warmly,

Ms Joanna

REMINDERS

LOST AND FOUND

We will bag all lost and found items before the holiday break, so please be sure to check the virtual lost and found for your child's items.

*When you check the virtual lost and found, please be sure to check the water bottle items listed.  There are 2 separate sections, one for bottles that have been in lost and found for 2 months and those that were new from this week.
The older bottles will go out after this week and no longer be available.
Thank you in advance for double checking to be sure you have claimed your child's bottle before then.

LABEL PLEASE (and avoid the lost and found!)

Please continue to label your children’s items with their Full Name (First,Last) and classroom

I have been able to return a few more items recently because there have been more labels, especially the water bottles.  Other items have multiplied recently, in particular, hats and gloves. Please be sure to label them as well :)

Lastly, if there are any last minute crafters who would like to join, there is still time!  Don't hesitate to reach out!  (jillhdavitt@gmail.com)

MATH MAGIC NEEDS MATH ENTHUSIASTS!

We are seeking three to four parent volunteers to design and lead the “Math Magic” club and restore this beloved tradition at PS 107. Prior to Covid, this was a parent-led math club that took place in the mornings before the start of the school day. Volunteers can be creative and make Math Magic what they want it to be! Ultimately, the aim is to encourage every child to have fun with parents and peers as they discover their inner mathmagician! If you're excited about this idea and want to sign up you can click here or if you have further thoughts/questions, please email our Co-Presidents, Davina Benederet davina@ps107.org and Cynthia Thaler cynthia@ps107.org.

TEACHER HOLIDAY POTLUCK COMING DEC 21st

Please be on the lookout for a Konstella sign-up to bring food items and volunteer for the Teacher Holiday Potluck on Wednesday, December 21st. We will shower our beloved PS 107 teachers and staff with a delicious potluck breakfast and afternoon snack treats. Stay tuned!

HOLIDAY CLASS GIFTS

Our holiday class gifts collection is starting up! We are excited to start collecting donations so that we can give our teachers and staff gifts from their class as we enter the holiday break.
