Parent-Led Morning Math Magic Club Needs...Parents!
PS107

Calling all math enthusiasts!

We are seeking parent volunteers to lead the “Math Magic” club after Derek Bestreich and Jake Wilhelmsen restored this beloved tradition at PS 107 last winter.

Because of their generosity and creativity, we now have an existing model, so co-leads would not be starting from scratch. Thank you, Derek and Jake!

If you loved Math Magic last year and want to continue to have this resource for our students, please consider signing up to co-lead!

To learn more, please see Jake and Derek's original message from last year below.

WHAT even is Math Magic?

A weekly morning math party at PS 107 with mathemagical games, puzzles, brain teasers and activities (and friends! (and treats probably!!!)).

Oh neat. WHEN & WHERE?

PS 107, 4th floor. Usually Wednesdays from 7:30–8:20 am. (Exact Start Date TBD)

WHO is invited?

ALL PS 107 STUDENTS who want to have fun doing math — K–5, any proficiency. It’s more party than study hall, more summer camp than homework help.

PARENTS are also welcome!  Parents of K–1 students who come to Math Magic are so welcome they’re required to attend

HOW does it work, tho?

Show up, join a fun group math activity, then break out into various activities of all levels. Elder mathemagicians (parents) will be there to help!

WHY?

Because math = magic and magic = fun, therefore (by the transitive property), math = fun.

If you're excited about this idea or have further thoughts/questions, please email our Co-Presidents, Mike Lew mike@ps107.org and Cynthia Thaler cynthia@ps107.org. The PTA Communications team will always be there to help any Math Magic volunteers with event organization, communication, sign-ups, etc.

Thank you!
