School News -- Week 8 Remote Learning
Wed, May 13 6:32pm

Dear PS107 Families,

I hope all of you are well. Seeing the world come alive outside certainly gives one hope, and is a reminder that Mother Nature, at least, is still on the job. When things feel hard in the human world, observing the simple beauty of a blossom or leaf can bring a sense of calm and relief.

Thanks to those of you who joined us for our “Family Check-In” Meetings last Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Tonight we are meeting with 3rd and 4th grade families, and tomorrow evening, 5th grade families. The meetings are at 7:30pm. Pamela has sent you the Zoom meeting IDs and passwords. I hope you will join us to learn more about remote classroom structures, managing expectations, and managing stress in these very stressful times.

I am very proud to share that through the efforts of our Community Outreach Committee and all of you who donated, we raised enough money to help 37 families from PS169 purchase a week’s worth of groceries. Amazing!  Many thanks to everyone who donated, and special thanks and kudos to Emily Hager and Adrianna Dufay for leading us in this important work.

In the next two weeks our Classroom teachers  and Academic Support teachers will be reaching out to parents of children who receive extra services to schedule a time to speak. This will be a general check-in on progress during and prior to remote learning. If your child receives services such as RTI or AIS, please look for an email from your teacher next week.

Today Pamela sent you a Konstella notice to ask if you have plans to leave PS107 before the next school year. This information helps us plan classes for next year, and believe it or not, we are starting that process now. Please let Pamela know as soon as possible if you are leaving or if you might be leaving. Thank you!

As many of you know, Zoom has come back into the DOE fold, but unfortunately, not without some serious constraints that were added to increase student security. Although we all agree Zoom is a better tool, at present we have no plans to return to Zoom for student meetings unless Google and the DOE can link our Google Classroom accounts and DOE accounts. If there are any changes, I will keep you updated.

Our next School Leadership Team meeting is coming up next Wednesday May 20th at 3pm. Please reach out to your SLT representatives ( if you have any school-wide issues you would like addressed at the meeting.

Finally, I hope you will join us for the May PTA Meeting, also on Wednesday May 20th (time TBD).  Please look for an announcement soon with details from the PTA.

Please stay safe, and always be 107 strong!
