According to the National Education Association, “Recent surveys indicate that teachers on average are forking out anywhere from $500 to as much as $900” from their own pockets.
What are we doing to help this here at PS107?
-
Teachers ask parents directly. Particularly in the lower grades, you’ve likely received direct asks from teachers at the beginning of the school year. Teachers use those funds to purchase supplies in bulk.
-
Teacher Grants: Teachers can get reimbursed from PTA Teacher Grants to offset costs so teachers can purchase essentials. Classroom teachers receive grants of $350 each from the PTA; Speech, O.T., Reading, and school counselors also receive the same grants.
-
Specialty Cluster Grants: The PTA also funds Art, Music, Physical Education, Science, STEM/Technology and Library with grants ranging from $1,000 to $2,000.
-
Schoolwide supplies: PTA dollars allow the school to purchase essential supplies for all classrooms, reducing the financial burden on teachers and ensuring students have what they need.
Defraying out-of-pocket expenses for teachers would not be possible without the funding from the PTA and your generosity. The PTA raises approximately $500,000 each year, and this year, $225,000 of that will come from the Annual Fund.
