Committee Updates:

Beast Relief
After a nail-biter of an election, the results from Beast Relief's Fall Festival endangered species voting booth are in. In an aviary upset, the African Gray Parrot surged ahead at the last minute to eclipse the Florida Manatee, and is our new star animal of the year.

The final tally:
Parrot - 58 votes
Manatee - 55 votes
Gorilla - 33 votes
Rhino - 28 votes

Please look for special African Gray Parrot programming throughout the year, including a poster of winning ballots.  Many thanks to all our volunteers and voters!

Harvest Day
It’s that time of year again … time to celebrate the fall harvest and all the wonderful flavors that come along with it! This year’s Harvest Day will take place on Wednesday, October 25, and every class in the school will get a chance to take part in the celebration. This is a great opportunity to volunteer and see the kids in action as they go from tasting table to juicing station and sample new tastes and flavors.

We will have lots of opportunities to lend a hand, so stay tuned for the Konstella Signup coming this week! If you are free to help during the event we have lots to do to help everything run smoothly: You can work at the tasting table, the juicing stations, the apple tasting area, and help with setup and cleanup. If you aren’t available during the school the day, never fear! We have lots to get done beforehand: There is plenty to be prepped, chopped, diced, peeled and prepared on Tuesday night. We will need dip makers, granola bakers, and many other behind-the-scenes volunteers. There is a place for everyone to pitch in and lend a hand! Please contact Green + Healthy Chair Kate Gitnick with questions or ideas.

Learning Friends
Are you looking to get involved in the PS107 community but aren't sure what to do? This might be the volunteer opportunity for you! Learning Friends is a unique volunteer opportunity that brings you in to work directly with a student during the school day.

What: Each volunteer will read with a 1st or 2nd grade student.
When: You pick the day of the week, 8:30-9 am, beginning in October and lasting all year.
Why: To instill confidence and a love of reading into these funny and sweet young readers.
Who:  Parents and grandparents.  No experience necessary!  Just bring your love of books and sense of fun.

Join the Learning Friends Committee on Konstella or contact Erin Bogaty or Susie Jen with questions.

MathMagic! begins this Wednesday, October 18th at 7:30am! All students K-5 are welcome to join us as we make math fun by playing games and improving problem-solving skills.  Parents of kindergarteners or first graders are required to accompany their children, but all parents are welcome to participate.

This year MathMagic is sponsored by Brooklyn Game Lab, the home of unplugged play with two locations on 7th Avenue. Stay tuned for special MathMagic!/Brooklyn Game Lab collaborations later in the school year, and next time you’re at Brooklyn Game Lab, tell Bob & Mary that you're a PS107 MathMagician!

Parent Action Committee
Did you know that PS107 has a group of parent volunteers that keeps parents informed on important educational issues that have the potential to impact our students in the classroom? Budget Cuts, diversity initiatives, and high-stakes testing are just some of the issues that affect our children and are decided by forces outside of our school community. If you are interested in learning about these issues and how to make your thoughts heard by decision makers, please join the Parent Action Committee on Konstella or contact committee chairs Erica Cohen & Kristi McNamara.
