Committee Updates:

Beast Relief
On January 5th, in honor of National Bird Day, the Avian Welfare Coalition posted images of the beautiful "Parrot Paradise" that PS107 students created at Art Day:

The art project, one of several parrot-related projects that Beast Relief is doing this year, was designed by Beast Relief member Grace Lerner. Follow the link to see the full post and learn more about National Bird Day: https://www.facebook.com/NationalBirdDay/posts/180228279239772

Also, on December 19th, Beast Relief raised $850 for Best Friends Rescue Network with a morning and afternoon bake sale, which went to help Houston hurricane dogs relocated to New York City. The successful (and delicious) event was organized by Beast Relief member Angie Gatti and co-chair Ali DeRosa.

Many thanks to all the students and parents who helped our feathered and four-legged friends!

Heritage Day
Share Your Family’s Background at Heritage Day!
PS 107’s cultural diversity will be on full display at Heritage Day on Saturday, March 10, from 12 to 3pm. Heritage Day is a special opportunity for families to share their backgrounds with the whole school community. For one afternoon, our school is transformed into more than 20 states and countries. After picking up passports at the door, our kids “travel” across the U.S. and around the globe, learning about other cultures through crafts, food, demonstrations, and more.

But we can’t pull off this event without you! Please consider:

  • Presenting a state or a country.  Share what’s unique about a place where you’ve lived. We’ll provide the display boards and a list of ideas.
  • Performing on the 4th floor. We’re always looking to showcase student talent. In past years, PS107 students have performed Irish dancing, German musical theater, Brazilian capoeira, and more. Contact Nancy Lin if you're interested in showcasing a talent.

For more information or questions about Heritage Day, please contact co-chairs Shelly Auster  and Desiree Cassese.

Movie Night
This Friday, January 19 from 6:30-9pm, drop off the kids for a PTA movie night fundraiser featuring the movie Trolls. The cost is $25 per child and $15 for additional siblings, and includes pizza and childcare.

Our last movie night sold out, so purchase your tickets in advance to guarantee a spot: ps107.org/movienight

Also, if you would like “bridge care” so your child can stay from the end of afterschool straight through Movie Night, you must register in advance online.

Please consider volunteering! Children of volunteers attend for free, and the more volunteers we have, the more children we can accommodate. We need at least one adult for every twelve children (the current tally is visible on the web form.) Please indicate on the registration form if you can volunteer.

Parent Workshop
This Friday at 8:30am, parents are invited to a workshop with PS107 Guidance Counselor Sarah Green on "How to Help Your Child Navigate Challenging Friendships." Everyone is welcome to attend!

Save the date for STEAM Day (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) on Saturday, February 3 from 12-3pm.

This year’s theme is Inventors, Scientists & Innovators. Students and their families will enjoy learning about diverse STEAM thought leaders and their work through fun hands-on STEAM workshops. STEAM Day is also a great opportunity to get involved and volunteer! Stay tuned for more information on STEAM Day, details about the new Mystery Art Sale, and volunteer signups via Konstella.
