STEAM Day (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) is this Saturday and we need volunteers!!! Students and their families will enjoy learning about the work of STEAM Inventors, Scientists & Innovators through fun hands-on workshops and activities. But it can’t happen without you!
Please consider volunteering an hour of your time to help with a workshop. We need lots of parent volunteers for the huge “Nerdy Derby” races on the 4th floor, and workshop assistants to help our kids make bouncy balls, ice cream, circuit masks, crop models, and more. Or donate baked goods for the STEAM Cafe! Join in the fun this Saturday, February 3, from 12-3pm!
Thanks to the generosity of PS107 families and numerous corporate matches from their employers, the 2017-18 Annual Fund has now reached 70% of our annual goal! This is in addition to the numerous fundraising efforts of the PTA, such as sponsorships from local businesses, the Fall Festival, Eat + Greet, Scholastic Book Fair, Photo Days, Movie Nights, Read-A-Thon, and coming soon, the spring Auction Gala!
|Considering the state of public school funding in our state, and the budget shortfalls our school is facing, these funds are critical to our school and our children’s education. Please contribute and help us reach our goal: ps107.org/donate. Every dollar counts!|
Save the date for Heritage Day on Saturday, March 10, from 12 to 3pm, when our school will be transformed into a global showcase of more than 20 states and countries. After picking up passports at the door, our kids “travel” across the U.S. and around the globe, learning about other cultures through crafts, food, demonstrations, and more. Share your family’s cultural background by putting together a display, or showcasing a dance, song, or performance on the 4th floor. Please e-mail co-chairs Shelly Auster and Desiree Cassese for more information.
Did you know that many PS107 lower grade students get weekly one-on-one reading time with an adult volunteer? That volunteer is a Learning Friend! We are currently seeking new volunteers to read with a kindergarten buddy every week for half an hour. No teaching experience required! Our mission is to share our love of books with young readers and spark the joy of reading. If you are available weekly from 8:30-9am (you choose the day of the week) and love to share the magic of books, please contact committee chairs Erin Bogaty or Susie Jen.
Mystery Art Show and Exhibition
Join us for the First Annual Mystery Art Sale + Exhibition this Saturday, February 3 from 12-3 during STEAM Day. More than 150 pieces from local artists and 5th grade students will be up for grabs.
All sales are on a first-come, first served basis. You don't want to miss it! Come by during during First Friday for a sneak-peek preview!!
New York International Children’s Film Festival
During four weekends in February and March, the NYICFF welcomes over 25,000 young people, parents, and movie-lovers to explore the world without leaving NYC. Presenting the best new animation, live action, documentary, and experimental film from across the globe, we invite you to watch, laugh, create, and explore with us! All PS107 families are invited to participate in the 4th Annual PS107 Read-A-Thon to help promote literacy and a love of reading with our students. This year we will be kicking off the Read-A-Thon with a Schoolwide Pajama Day on Thursday, February 15th (the last day before mid-winter break), and our neighborhood bookstore Powerhouse will also be offering 20% off children’s book sales from February 5 through March 3. Instructions and sponsor forms will be sent home at the end of this week.
