Welcome Back from The Green Committee! 5 tips for the year + Saturday’s Potluck!

Welcome back! We’re excited for a new school year and look forward to making it even greener than the last.

Snacks & Lunches

Did you know that Plastic Free Lunch Day is now a regular menu day in all NYC public elementary schools? Let’s challenge ourselves to extend this to lunch and snacks brought from home. Here are some tips from our committee. These tips can save you money!

Coming to the Welcome Back potluck this weekend? Help make it green:

  1. Reusables: Bring your own cup and cutlery to use and take home if you can. There will be PTA reusable cutlery and cups available (thanks to the parent volunteers setting up and washing items after the event!).

  2. Use your own dish! Bring your own dish, labeled. If you need to bring in a disposable dish, opt for aluminum - it’s easy and efficient to recycle. Either way, use aluminum foil for covering instead of plastic wrap.

  3. Store-bought Food & Drinks: Reduce plastic packaging as much as possible. Opt for cans and larger, recyclable drink bottles (please, no juice boxes).

  4. Bring a water bottle to refill
