There are many fun and educational things happening in the coming weeks in District 15.

On Wed, Jan 23, join students from all over the District for a free Civic Engagement Workshop for Families with Young Children.  PS15 students will be presenting the ban on styrofoam. Assemblymember Jo Anne Simon will give a sign language lesson, there will be a lesson on how to use a bullhorn and families will be given a Civic Engagement Resources kit! See the attached flyer for more details.

A Community Conversation on the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT), 1/24/2019. You are invited to a community conversation on the SHSAT, the test used to determine admissions to the specialized high schools in New York City. The event will include a panel discussion featuring experts on testing and test validity, alternatives to testing, and increasing racial, ethnic and gender diversity in the City’s specialized schools. There will also be a Q&A session. The City proposes to change the admissions process at specialized high schools, but it needs state legislative approval to do so -- please join us as we discuss this important topic. The event will take place on Thurs., Jan. 24th, 6-8:30pm, at the Brooklyn Public Library Dweck Auditorium, 10 Grand Army Plaza, Brooklyn, NY 11238. RSVP here or email simonj@nyassembly.gov.

On Fri, Jan 25, Education Advocate and CEC Special Ed presenter Miriam Nunberg leads a small, interactive training on the basic legal standards for getting an IEP or 504 plan for a child with ADHD. See the attached flyer for more details.
