Fri, Sep 13 1:55pm
Dear PS58 Families,

Your PTA welcomes you back to school! We hope you had a fantastic and refreshing summer. As you are feeling the shift into school momentum we encourage you to get involved.  We have many events coming up and projects in the works.

Please join us for our first PTA General Meeting of the year on Wed, Sep 25 at 7-8:30pm in the Auditorium. (Childcare will be available.) All PS58 parents are members of our PTA, and everyone is encouraged to attend our meetings.

This will be a terrific opportunity to discuss the wide range of things taking place at PS58 during the 2019-20 school year and learn about ways to get involved — such as the following:
  • Looking back on 2018-19 and Planning for 2019-20. We will reflect on last year by reviewing our 2018-19 community survey results, then review and vote to finalize our 2019-20 plan and budget — which incorporates new suggestions from the survey and sustains our favorite annual events, including the following:
    • Parent Meet & Greet (Sep)
    • Costume Carnival (Oct)
    • Holiday Fair (Dec)
    • International Food Festival (Jan)
(We will post the full calendar on the PS58 website and send notifications through Konstella soon with sign-ups for volunteer participation.)
  • Updates from Principal Katie Dello Stritto & Parent Coordinator Joan Bredthauer. We will hear from Katie and Joan about happenings in school and our District, including:
    • Updates on the boiler project and timeframe for accessing our entire schoolyard
    • Plans for beginning work on the schoolyard renovation utilizing the $500,000 City Council grant we won last year
    • News about the $175,000 grant we recently won for the expansion of our Garden program by building a hydroponic greenhouse
    • Updates on our local school re-zoning and ways to participate
  • Updates from our Co-Presidents Linnea Olson and Adam Baruchowitz. We will hear from Linnea and Adam about some exciting projects which our PTA has been leading to improve our kids’ experience and make our lives easier.
    • MyBlueCard.org. Learn about our new digital system ensure the school always has the most up-to-date information about your child in case of any emergency
    • Acoustic upgrades. Experience for yourself upgrades we have made in the Cafeteria to make it less noisy for our kids, plus new sound systems we have installed in the Cafeteria and Auditorium to enhance their use of those spaces
    • New field trip system. Explore with us a new system for the streamlining and automation of Field Trip payments which we are piloting this year
As you can see, there are many exciting things going on this year — and we are just getting underway! Please bring your questions, concerns, suggestions and volunteer energy and join us as we support our school to do such fantastic work for our children and enjoy being part of such a wonderful school community!

Sincerely,

Adam, Linnea, and the PTA Board
