Is this an auction party or an online auction?
Both. There’s a party at the Bell House on March 21 with a live auction. There’s also an online auction that culminates that night.
Am I Invited?
You are. Every PS58 parent and all the staff are invited. Here’s where you buy your ticket.
Can I bid on everything online?
No. There are a hundred-plus items online but there are some items, like VIP tickets to Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, that you can only bid on at the party.
Where is the party?
The Bell House. It’s a concert and comedy spot in Gowanus. Two rooms, two bars, graffiti in the bathroom, lots of space to hang out, a stage.
I’ve heard this is a special night, why do people say that?
It’s one of the only times of the year where the parents of PS58 have a night to socialize as a group—without kids. Some people dress up. There’s music. It’s funny and fun. There’s food from local favorites like Shelsky’s and Gersi. The booze is free.
Does this make a big difference to the school?
Yes. The auction raises about 20% of the PTA’s funds for the year. It goes to pay for field trips, classroom programs and loads of other ways we support the school.
What kinds of items are up for bid?
Restaurant gift certificates. Kids classes. Rare bourbon. All kinds of stuff, all hustled by parents of 58, almost all donated by local businesses.
How does the bidding work?
This website makes it happen, and it can fit on your phone. More details coming soon as bidding is not up and running yet. Get yourself set up before the event, though—bidding on party night is fast and furious. You start bidding on items and, as others outbid you, you’ll get notified.
Can I bid at home in my pajamas?
Can I wear my pajamas to the Bell House?
Sure, why not.
What happens if I win something but I’m not at the Bell House?
You can pick it up at school the next week. Don’t worry, if you win it we’ll find you.
Can you just lay it all out for me?
