Updates on P-EBT and Pandemic Relief with our Partner School, PS 676
Tue, Aug 18 3:12pm

Dear PS 58 Families,

Thank you so much to those who have donated to the pandemic relief efforts so far. We have  some important updates to share with you.

We have a location for the food drive! PS 58 parent Christine Toes Muldoon has generously offered to allow drop-offs outside her home.

  • Where: 42 4th Place between Clinton/Henry. Bins will be located under the stoop, inside the gate.
  • When: Tuesday 8/18 - Sun 8/31. Drop off any day between 8 a.m. and 7p.m.
  • What: Most helpful items include beans, rice, canned vegetables, tuna, mac and cheese, canned spaghetti/ravioli, peanut butter, jelly, cereal, and breakfast bars.

For those who are not in the neighborhood or prefer to make a cash donation, you can use your P-EBT benefit to purchase groceries for your own family and make an in-kind donation to PS 676 by contributing to our fundraiser. Families not currently enrolled in SNAP, TA, or medicaid will continue to receive P-EBT cards through September.

We realize that many of you have questions on where and how to use the P-EBT benefit. To further support our neighbors in Red Hook, please consider visiting Red Hook Farms, where P-EBT can be used at the Saturday farmstand across from Ikea, or for membership in the CSA. Red Hook Farms is a youth-centered urban farming and food justice program, located in Red Hook and operated by Red Hook Initiative (RHI), a community-based nonprofit focused on youth development, community building, and community hiring.

For other options, keep in mind that the benefit can be used to purchase eligible food items from any authorized retail seller that accepts EBT. This includes local supermarkets, drugstores, and delis around the neighborhood and some online retailers, such as Amazon Fresh. You can also support local farmers by using P-EBT at most GrowNYC greenmarkets and farmstands - including the Sunday farmers’ market right outside of PS 58. Please note that it is necessary to set up a PIN for your card before using it. Instructions and other information can be found in the New York State P-EBT FAQ.

Thank you for remembering the needs of our community during this difficult time.

Sincerely,

PS 58 PTA Executive Board
