📅 Upcoming Events & Reminders

• 💙 FOPBE Annual Contribution Drive Kicks Off — Monday, Aug 31st

  • FOPBE’s annual budget of ~$160,000 averages $500 per student for our 320 enrolled children. Since many of our enrichment programs are not funded by the school district, this drive helps cover critical resources, including:

    • Additional teaching staff & Whole Child playground supervision

    • San Diego Youth Science & Garden enrichment

    • Field trips, Art Attack, & library books

    • Educational platforms 

    • Family and community events

• 🎨 Fall After-School Enrichment: Enrichment classes start this week for registered students! Check schedules on the FOPBE Enrichment Page.

• 🗳️ SSC Ballot Closes — Wednesday, Sept 2nd

  • Voting for parent/guardian members on the School Site Council closes at the end of the day. Please cast your vote today!

• ⏰ Minimum Day — Friday, Sept 4th

  • Dismissal at 12:15 PM. Students enrolled in after-school programs (PrimeTime, Whole Child, Klassic Kids) will report directly to their programs at dismissal.

• 🇺🇸 No School — Monday, Sept 7th

  • School will be closed for Labor Day. Have a safe and wonderful long weekend!

Upcoming Fundraisers & Social Events

• 🍕 Seaside Pizza Co. Dine-Out Fundraiser — Thursday, Sept 10th

  • Location: Seaside Pizza Co. (4263 Mission Blvd)

  • Details: 20% of all proceeds (dine-in, delivery, & takeout) will be donated directly back to FOPBE!

• 🤠 Mom’s Night Out at Mavericks — Thursday, Sept 17th

  • Time: 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM | Location: Mavericks (Front Party Room) | Cost: Free to attend!

• 🍊 Orangetheory Fitness Fundraiser — Sunday, Sept 27th

  • Limited to 48 participants! Keep an eye out for the reservation link to lock in your spot.

📢 School Announcements & Volunteer Needs

• 🤝 FOPBE Volunteer Opportunities: We are looking for parent leads and helpers for:

  • Committees & Events: Auction, Corporate Sponsorships, 5th Grade Coordination, Jogging Club, Penguin Pride, SkateWorld, Plunge Events, and Pizza Wednesdays.

  • Co-Leads: Co-Treasurer (shadow) & Halloween Carnival (shadow).

  • Specialized Skills: DJs, tax preparation, or insurance experts! 🎧📊📝

• 💛 PBE PALS (Lunch Supervision): Help supervise lunch (M, T, Th, F from 10:15 AM – 12:15 PM). Sign Up Here (Email Dr. Schnitzer at kschnitzer@sandi.net to complete requirements).

• 📚 Core Academy is Back! Tentative Saturday dates for the 2026–2027 school year:

  • Oct 24 (Soft Opening - absences only), Nov 14, Dec 5, Jan 30, Feb 27, Mar 20, Apr 10.

📋 Mandatory Forms & Clearance Checklist

• PowerSchool Parent Portal: Log in to complete the Universal Form (technology, media release, discipline) and review the Family Resource Guide.

• Library Permission Slip: Fill out the online permission slip for each student so they can check out books.

• Volunteer Clearance: Turn in your volunteer application(attached), driver's license copy, and valid TB clearance (within 4 years) at the front office.

  • Field Trip Drivers: Require LiveScan fingerprinting, the mandatory volunteer course, and the SDUSD Volunteer Screening form(attached). (If you completed LiveScan last year, it is still valid!)

⛺ Community & Local School News

• 🌊 September Beach Cleanup — Saturday, Sept 19th (8:00 AM – 12:00 PM):

  • Location: Meet at the grass by Belmont Park (near the parking lot restrooms). Buckets, grabbers, and gloves provided! A great way for students to earn service hours.

• 📣 Future Buc Night Cheer Camp (Grades K–8):

  • Camp Date: Saturday, Sept 26 (9:00 AM – 12:00 PM) | Fee: $60

  • Learn cheers, get a free t-shirt, and perform at the MBHS halftime show on Oct 2nd! Register by Sept 12th (see attached flyer).

• 🏫 Middle & High School Campus Tours:

  • PBMS Tours (9:00 AM – 10:30 AM): Sept 16, Oct 21, Dec 8, Jan 13, Feb 17, Apr 14 (see flyer).

  • MBHS Tours (9:30 AM): Sept 10, Oct 8, Oct 22, Nov 12, Jan 14, Feb 18, Mar 11, Apr 8 (see flyer).
