We hope everyone stayed hydrated, had a safe weekend, and survived the extreme heat! It is projected to stay hot through Thursday, so please encourage your kids to bring water bottles and stay hydrated throughout the school day. • ☕ Mission Bagel Morning Pop-Up (7:30 AM – 8:15 AM)

  • Catch Mission Bagel at the corner marquee selling morning coffee (from Coffee Cycle) and fresh bagels!

  • Menu: Coffee ($4) | Bagel & Cream Cheese ($7) | Egg & Cheese Bagel ($10) | Lox Sandwich ($15)

  • $1 from every purchase goes directly back to PBE!

• ⏰ Minimum Day — Friday, Oct 9th

  • All students will be dismissed at 12:15 PM. Students in PrimeTime or afterschool programs will go directly to their program; all other students must be picked up promptly at 12:15 PM.

• 🗓️ Non-Instructional Day (No School) — Monday, Oct 12th

  • No school for all SDUSD students. Enjoy the long weekend!

• 🏓 PBE Dads Night Out: Pickleball Tournament — Tuesday, Oct 20th (5:00 PM – 7:00 PM)

  • Grab your paddles and join us at the Pacific Beach Tennis Club! Come play, hang out, and enjoy light snacks and beverages with fellow PBE dads. No pro status required!

📢 School Announcements & Volunteer Needs

• 🤝 FOPBE Volunteer Opportunities: We need parent leads and helpers for:

  • Committees & Events: Corporate Sponsorships, 5th Grade Coordination, and Pizza Wednesdays.

  • Co-Leads: Halloween Carnival (shadow lead).

  • Specialized Skills: DJs, tax preparation, or insurance handling!

• 💛 PBE PALS (Lunch Supervision): Help supervise lunch (M, T, Th, F from 10:15 AM – 12:15 PM). Sign Up Here via Konstella (Email Dr. Schnitzer at kschnitzer@sandi.net to complete district requirements).

• 📝 Independent Study for Planned Absences: Independent Study allows eligible students to complete coursework during a planned absence (minimum 3 consecutive days up to a maximum of 15 consecutive days). Approval is subject to principal discretion and district policy. (Note: Absences beyond 15 days total cannot be nullified).

• 📚 Core Academy Saturday Dates: Oct 24 (Soft Opening - absences only), Nov 14, Dec 5, Jan 30, Feb 27, Mar 20, & Apr 10.

⛺ Community & Local School News

• 🏎️ California Track Masters at Tecolote Park: Super-cool remote-control tracks set up in Tecolote Park from noon to sunset, Friday–Sunday. Buy a car for $5 and play all day! Check out their YouTube & IG pages.

• ⛳ MBREA Annual Golf Tournament for PB Schools: Sign up to play or donate a raffle item (gift cards, services, vacation rentals, sports tickets) to raise funds for PBE and local PB schools! (See attached flyer for details).

• ⚽ Free Volo Youth Soccer: Free Monday soccer spots at Kate Sessions Elementary available through Volo Kids League.

• 🍔 SD Public Library "Cover to Cover" Reading Program: Read 5 books or 300 minutes to earn a certificate for a free burger! Log progress online via SDPL Cover to Cover.

• 🤝 Bird Rock Gives Back — Meal Packing Event (Nov 7th): Partnering with Outreach Program to pack 50,000 meals. Sign up or donate online.

• 🎁 Kids Free October: Check out local San Diego promotions for "Kids Free October" (see attached flyer for participating venues).
