From our Oakland Public Librarian -

"Here is a really fun summer reading video to share with your students and link for summer reading.  It includes the calendar of events and printable reading logs.

Signups for summer reading start May 24th, online or at any library branch.  Once again, the Oakland A’s have generously sponsored ticket vouchers to anyone who signs up for summer reading, while supplies last.

Also starting May 24th, stop by any library branch to get your limited edition Children’s Fairyland Library Card.  Library cards are available to all ages, and if you bring your Children’s Fairyland Library Card to the amusement park on July 30th you can receive free entry. "

"Redwood Heights is joining Oakland Promise's Kindergarten to College (K2C)program! Oakland Promise - a cradle to career strategy - began three years ago and is working to dramatically increase the number of college graduates from Oakland. K2C works with our Oakland elementary schools to instill a college-bound identify within all our students, beginning in Kindergarten. We have 50+ OUSD elementary schools part of K2C this year and have three main components to our program.
  1. Provide early scholarships of $100 (For K-2)

  2. Implement a college-going culture at school (For TK-5th)

  3. Support families with technical assistance to open their own 529 college savings accounts, offering up to $100 in incentives as families open accounts and save consistently for 6 months. Families may also choose to donate these incentives to others.

For more information, feel free to email them at k2c@oaklandpromise.org."
